Mertensia virginica
Flowering Perennial, Ground cover Produces lovely pink buds that open to sapphire blue bell flowers in March-May. Excellent in woodland settings. Pollinated by long-tongues bees and supports many other early pollinators. Ephemeral so foliage dies back in summer. Interplant with ferns and other perennials. Best in organic-rich, moist, well drained soils. Naturalizing.
